Letters From Out West

Letters From Out West

Letters From Out West is a monthly dip‑pen frontier letter, written as if pulled straight from a saddlebag in 1897. Each issue is a short, handwritten glimpse into the lives of cowboys, mountain men, prospectors, ranch hands, dog mushers, farmers, blacksmiths, wagon makers, and all the scattered souls who built the early American West. Every letter is 200–300 words, printed from an original dip‑pen page, complete with uneven ink, misspellings, and the rough charm of a real artifact. Many issues include small hand‑drawn illustrations — simple frontier sketches made with the same dip‑pen and ink — adding an extra touch of character and authenticity. No two months are alike. Each letter comes from a different voice, a different place, and a different moment in time.

What's Included

  • •Each month you’ll receive a new frontier letter — 200–300 handwritten words printed from an original dip‑pen page. Every issue features a different voice from the Old West: mountain men, prospectors, ranch hands, mushers, farmers, blacksmiths, wagon makers, and all the scattered characters who wrote their lives into paper. Many letters include small hand‑drawn illustrations made with the same dip‑pen and ink — simple sketches, trail marks, tools, animals, or whatever the writer might have added in the moment. Every letter is rough, uneven, and full of the honest imperfections of a real 1890s correspondence. No two months are alike. Each one arrives as a standalone artifact from a different place, a different life, and a different moment in time.
